Ailsa's Favorite Restaurants
I know, I know, it seems a bit silly to tell you my favourite restaurants, but I love it when other people make more and more money (makes the world go 'round, just a little bit smoother, right??), so here are my current favorite restaurants... there's nothing I like better than going out for a great meal with people I really love (well, one other thing, but that ain't'a happenin' for me, right now, so food it is, dammmit!! Ah, well, maybe I'll meet someone good in one of the many restaurants I like to go to the most ...)
I live in Los Angeles (but not for much longer, I've had it with the L.A. Scene... and I can't believe I haven't met a decent man in the entire 4 years I've been here -- I've gotta find a new pond to swim in, one with nicer fish!! haha!)
So here are my favorite Restaurants in Los Angeles, California:
The Cheesecake Factory in Marina del Rey. It's great. Always great food and excellent service, and you can sit out on the balcony, overlooking the Marina. And if you happen to go on the weekend, and you've brought your children, you can go and get your 'buzzer', and take the kids to the playground on the beach while you're waiting for your table -- it's a Win-Win for everyone! And if you are anything like me (which you may very well be, since you have somehow magically found my website!! Thank you!! Kisses from afar, but in a very, very platonic way, of course!! haha!), you'll have a wee walk along the shore, yourself, dip your feet in the ocean! Now that's a fun day! :)
Aand, the menu is very good, very moderate prices... my favorites are the Jumbalaya with the Linguine (yum -- ask for extra sauce), the Madiera Chicken, and the Lousiana Chicken. Cara loves the Cajun Chicken Littles (like spicy chinken fingers), and now they have a great Children's Menu, and Aidan gets, I think, one of each of the desserts, but they are about, oh, $2.00 each from the Children's Menu, so that is okay with me! (Plus, I'm generally at the bottom of whatever drink I ordered with dinner, so really, I never care by the time dessert rolls around! lol!)
And speaking of desserts, of course their Cheesecake is fantastic. Just make a plan in advance that you'll be taking home a Doggie Bag, then you'll just eat what you like, bring the rest home for the next day.. or two. Takes me ages to finish a piece of the The Cheesecake Factory's Cheesecakes... I like the Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake, the Coconut Cheesecake... reallly, I love them all (slight problem for me! lol), and their other desserts are delightful, too. You can't go wrong with this restaurant.
There's Valet Parking -- $5 will cover it. It still breaks me up that you pull up to any restaurant in L.A.,happily hand your keys over to a guy in a Red Vest, he parks your car right in front of you, and you spend ages after the meal searching for the only proof you have that your car actually belongs to you (by then, a folded up wad somewhere on your being...), then you're soo happy when they 'bring the car around', like it's magic. No. Not magic. I think it's called, in other parts of the world, A Giant Rip Off, but here in Los Angeles, it's a staple.
Google Directions, but you should be able to take the 405 North or South, depending on where you are coming from, West on the 90, Left at Lincoln, Turn on Bali Way.... I just take Jefferson to Lincoln (L), turn Left into the Marina at Bali, follow the Marina Road around until you see the Cheesecake Factory sign... see how easy?? :)

Shanghai Reds in Marina del Rey. Our favourite is, by far, the Sunday Champagne Brunch. Oh, man, you will think you have wandered into heaven, and you had no idea how much delicious food would be set out for you... and a fantastic view of the ocean, which I love. We always go early (before 9:30am, because then you are guaranteed a great table right in front of the windows in the center section of the restaurant is our favorite table -- you know you go somewhere a lot when you have your favorite table, and all the staff know exactly where you like to sit! haha!). It's a little pricey, but well worth it for a special treat -- I think in the mid-$30's a person, but kids are about $10, I think (who's had a lot of champagne by the time the bill comes?? haha! But it's all the champagne you would like, all day long... I like to mix my champagne with the Cranberry Juice, or the Orange Juice (or, let's be real, on it's own, and in all sorts of combinations! lol)... and they have the best omelet bar, pasta bar, an incredible assortment of everything else delicious in the center section of the restaurant, and a great dessert area... and the bestest cappicino (spelling??), ever (necessary after all the champagne! haha!).It's delicious, with a cinnamon-y taste, and fresh whip cream -- oh, reminds me -- if you love fresh, giant waffles, they have the most delicious waffles, with a vat 'o strawberries and an even bigger vat o' whip cream, and then more strawberries... we love Shanghai Reds! :)
Now, don't worry about drinking champagne all day -- you'll be eating a lot, too... and then you can walk about the Fisherman's Wharf for hours and hours, checking out the band that plays on the weekends (watch out for the old dude -- he's all hands ... you'll know him if he asks you to dance! lol!), shopping, looking at the seals... whatever it is you might like to do to feel all nice and sober! Tell them Ailsa sent you -- they love to hear their friends have recommended them! :)
Directions: Google them for your own sanity, but it's basically the 405 to the 90 W, Left at Lincoln, Turn on Bali Way.... I just take Jefferson to Lincoln (L), turn Left into the Marina at Bali, go straight through to the Fisherman's Wharf. Bring your ticket in to get it validated.. oh, and I almost forgot to tell you... if you get there before 9:30am, you get $5.00 off per person (maybe just the adults, I'm not sure about that...), and I put that toward our Server's Tip, since we always get someone great! The Staff at Shanghai Reds are soo nice and so helpful... it's just continual champagne and smiles all day!! A real treat, and if you're in from out of town, and looking for something wonderful to do on your trip to Los Angeles, you'll love Shanghai Reds!
Fiesta Martin, a great new Mexican Restaurant that some friends of a friend just opened up -- I'm telling you, it's deeelicious! And you will not believe the prices -- they're sooo low! Lots of meals are $5.99, $7.99 and $9.99, and their phenomenally delicious Chile Relleno is $2.49!! That's right, I'm not drunk, that's true! haha! Whaaat?? Is it still 1973?? You'd think you walked into the past, with the prices on this menu! And the portions are enormous, so you'll have something delicious for lunch the next day, fer sures... my favorite thing! Is it just me, or does it taste even better the next day? Maybe because I'm always starving by the time lunch rolls around when I'm at school!
This is a really nice, family run restaurant, and you don't have to pay for parking!! Yippee!! You can park behind the restaurant, and there's tons of street parking, so nothing to worry about, there.. that's all you ever think about in L.A., where am I gonna park, and is there Valet? And are they wearing little Red Jackets? haha! (Would it be a good investment to go and buy a little red jacket, wait ourside stores for lazy people?? hahaha! (I kidding! Don't actually do this... tha'ts called stealing, and not a good idea -- I hear the food sucks in jail, and that might not even be the worst of it! hahahaha! Okay, those jokes are just for my own amusement! haha!)
I actually remembered to bring a Menu home with me, so their address is:
Fiesta Martin, 1330 N. La Brea Ave., Inglewood, California 90302. And their phone number is 310-672-1330, if you get lost! :) www.fiestamartin.com
Directions: Centinela to La Brea, between Centinela and Slauson... or La Brea South if you coming from the North... really, just Google Map it, then you will not get lost... it's really easy to find, though, and right on the corner, I think of 64th Ave., but I'll have to check that! Have fun and tell them that Ailsa sent you (and tell them my hilarious 10 year old son, Aidan, wants to come back, too -- let me know if you are going, maybe we'll meet you up there ... I'd love to meet more of my Readers!!)
Enjoy your Food!! Bon Appetit!! I wonder how you say that in Spanish?? Ola!! (Sorry, I'm having a hard time picking up my Spanish!! lol!)
