TIPS

Tip # 1. Spot Remover (for your skin!)

Have you ever had a really sore spot on your skin? Almost everyone has a bother at one time or another. Here's what to do: put a couple of regular aspirins on a teaspoon, and add a wee drop of water. Set it by the sink for a minute and it'll dissolve completely. Put on enough of this to cover the spot, and let it dry. Leave it on all night if it's a particularly sore spot. If you like, you can mix it with a wee bit of your favourite skin cream, then apply it to the area. You'll see a remarkable difference in your skin in no time!

I just made this discovery, and I can't believe how well this works. As with anything, try this at your own discretion...

There are so many 'solutions' for problem skin (especially Acne) on different shows and in all sorts of articles, but most of them end in 'see your Dermatologist', but it's my guess that the vast majority of people don't have regular (or any...) access to a Dermatologist, so I think there's room for my little idea. Pass the info along if you know someone who might benefit from it!

I also tried this in a Mask, mixing the dissolved aspirin (any kind -- the coating won't make any difference) with some Liquid Antibacterial Soap. It really tightens up the pores. Take extra care not to get this anywhere near your eyes!

Lately, I have started dissolving a whole lot of Aspirin (Bayer dissolves with the smoothest texture...) in a little container (okay, it's a plumbing part, but only because Dwight has these things laying around all over the house! ha,ha!). About 7 or 9 of them -- God knows why I like odd number so very much, but I do! You can use as many as you like.

Anyway, I use them as a Regular Face Scrub, now -- just scoop some of the Dissolved Aspirin & Water into the palm of your hand and add some Liquid Soap. Removes all the make-up or dirt (male/female...whatever you get on your face!). Again, watch you don't get this in your eyes and moisurize your skin afterwards. Very refreshing.
Make sure you moisturize your skin after any of these little 'treatments'.

I happen to like 'experimenting' with different things, so if there's something else (external, for Goodness Sake!) that you think it might work on, try it. You can always wash it off right away, if you experience any discomfort.

Cold Sores (or anything in that family...) -- apply the Dissolved Aspirin and small amount of Vitamin E, Aloe Vera gel or any over-the-counter Viral fighting gel directly to the spot. You'll be shocked at how quickly it goes away (I finally got Dwight to try this, and the problem was gone right away -- No, not Dwight, just the spot! ha,ha,ha!).

I have the worst time with Allergies, and now I can only use completely Unscented Items (with the exception of Citrus, which I'm still Okay with!). This site has all sorts of useful products for folks like me!

When we first got Tia (our wee dog), I had a really bad allergic reaction to her, but we all loved her sooo much, I went in search of a product that might help, and I found one -- Allerpet/d (Allerpet, Inc., Farnam Pet Products). You just rub it on your pet (cover all the fur...) and any 'pet smell' disappears. The bizarre thing is that we only had to do it a number of times over the first two years, then rarely after that...this stuff really works!

Tip # 2. Spot Remover (for your Carpets)

Do you have a wee dog? Boy? Husband?? Chances are high that someone will spill something on your carpets, or you might have a really old stain you just can't get rid of...
this is the best Cleaner I've come across, to date, and the least expensive, too! It's Oxi-Clean. We'll see if we can find a banner so you can check it out from our site. Read all the directions on the container, then mix about a Tablespoon of Oxi-Clean in a 16 oz. spray bottle. I start with enough hot water to dissolve the crystals, then fill the bottle with cold water and Shake Well. Try an inconspicuous area, first, to make sure it'll be okay for your rug. If everything is fine, go ahead and spray any spots on the carpets with the Oxi-Clean Substance, then wipe it off with a clean cloth, preferably white. (In case the colour from another towel runs...) This even worked on a mustard stain. I foolishly gave our wee dog, Tia -- a Cockapoo, and very cute -- a piece of a corndog with mustard on it...she immediately took it to her 'dining area' on the Living Room Carpet, and I thought we might have to replace the whole carpet. The stain disappeared immediately! Amazingly enough, when you spray on the Oxi-Clean, you can literally watch the stain 'disappear'. Very cool!

You can use it in the laundry, too, and for a whole lot of other things, but that's my favourite!

Tip # 3. For Your Lovelife! (That's right -- this is the Big Sex Tip! ha,ha!)

Wanna improve your Lovelife? Then you gotta 'clean up your act'! ha,ha,ha! Not only should you always be extra-nice to your spouse (surprising how effective that can be!), but you can make yourself incredibly clean and fresh if you wash up with Baking Soda and your regular soap...Sounds simple, but you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results! Keep a container of Baking Soda (a plastic container with a lid will keep it clean, dry and neat) in the Bathroom. Be sure to 'share' this secret with your partner, too!

Now, that wasn't so bad, was it?? Dwight is beside himself that I put that tip on the site, but I think that anything that improves the life of a couple is a good thing for everyone! Plus, it ain't rocket science -- just a little piece of information that I thought you might like and find useful...!

< >

Well, I'm Baking Soda Girl -- it's one of my all-time favorite products!

Try these Tips, too:

Tip # 4. Whiten Your Teeth -- put Dry Baking Soda on a dampened Toothbrush (preferably Electric or Battery driven...) and give your teeth a good bush. Do this Twice a Day and you'll see a big difference in about a week.

Tip # 5. Facial Scrubs -- mix about a tablespoon of Baking Soda with your regular Liquid Face Soap -- it makes a gentle 'scrub' and removes all make-up or dirt...

And if you haven't tried dissolving 4 Aspirins in a wee bit of water and making a paste with Liquid Anti-Bacterial Soap, give it a shot. Watch out for your eyes!

Tip # 6. Clean Painted Walls & Laminate Countertops

Here's my Tip for the Day! Do you have annoying marks on your Painted Walls -- scuff Marks from shoes tossed off at the door, finger prints from people who can't seem to keep their paws off the walls (!), God knows what on your bedroom wall (okay, that's me -- and I really don't know what's on the wall, but I do know I better go scrub it off!)...anyway, you can make your walls look like new if you scrub them very lightly with a Scotch-Brite Heavy Duty Sponge. It's the Green and Yellow one, and I buy them in Bulk (of course!) at Costco.

Get the Scotch-Brite Sponge (do not confuse this with a large bottle of Scotch, but if you've already made that mistake, I think I might know what's on your walls... plus, a few more drinks and you probably won't be so terribly worried about anything, let alone the walls...!) and dip it into some hot, soapy water. Wring it out well.

VERY GENTLY rub the Scrapy Green side over the mark on the wall. I always use a circular motion, but that's probably because I really liked that part of The Karate Kid...

Be extra careful not to rub too hard, lest you'll take the paint right off, which will probably not be an improvement...

Turn the Sponge over and give the whole area one last wipe. You'll be amazed at what a nice job this does.

Also, in our last house we had Laminate Countertops, and the only thing that would easily remove Coffee or Tea Stains (and anything else...) was the Scotch-Brite Pads and hot, soapy water.

To keep these clean and fresh, I pop them in the Dishwasher whenever I run it.

I use this technique for Trimwork before I paint it, too.

Tip # 7. You know how I mentioned about going ahead and coloring your hair if you have been thinking you'd like a change? Well, here's another little tip from my Teaching Years. I used to Teach Grades 5/6, and one of the things we had to do was a Lice Check, which totally freaked me out. (I was very young and naive at the time - my early 20's - and that's when I decided to start working with Older Students...plus, the smaller kids didn't always get my jokes...Teaching is often quite a bit like Stand-Up Comedy, only you have to squish a Lesson in there amongst the laughs!)

There is a great website with very useful, non-toxic information and 'solutions', so-to-speak, to get rid of this very annoying (and surprisingly common...) problem. Click on http://www.headliceinfo.com for more info, or refer the info to a friend. If you are a Teacher, please pass this info to all your teacher friends and your Students' Parents. (Now it's like a little Public Service Ad!!)

And that old myth that you have to immediately run out and cut the kid's hair all off is simply not true -- just do the treatment, pop bedding into the Dryer for 40 minutes on high (and other soft toys the child has come into contact with -- and don't forget to pop the pillow in the dryer, too...). Wash the rest of the regular bedding and clothes.

Most importantly, stay calm and make sure your child knows this is something easy to deal with and a common part of childhood for many, many children.

And then maybe go have a Drink! (Gin or Whiskey is good, I'm thinking!)

Tip # 8. Use Hydrogen Peroxide as a Facial Toner -- it's great! It'll really clean your skin and refine your pores, which is always good, right? You'll see an incredible improvement in your skin within 10 days! Just apply it with a little Cotton Pad. Put some Moisturizer on your face after that... I use Lubriderm Hand Lotion because it's one of the few moisturizers I'm not allergic to...) It's handy to have in your Medicine Cabinet for any cuts & scrapes, too. You can buy Hydrogen Peroxide at any Department Store or Pharmacy -- it costs about 97 cents for a bottle -- very cheap for an incredibly useful product!

Hey, I just got this set of Tips in my e-mail -- I particularly like the Glue on the Sliver Tip -- Dwight is forever running his hand along any piece of wood until he get a sliver -- or so it seems to me! ha,ha! (oh, and the Scottish word for 'sliver' is 'skelf' -- it was a language barrier between Dwight and I until I figured out that he didn't know what I was talking about when I would say, "Oh, did you get another skelf?", and he would always say, "NO...", then try to make me pull it out with the tweezers -- yuck! I can't do that sort of thing -- unless it's a child, then I'll help them with anything! ha,ha!

(The Blue writing is my little two cents worth at the end!)

Did You Know That.....?

Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately -- without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional "pain relievers." This would be great for Pregnant and Nursing Mums, since they can't take any regular medication.

Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns?

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

Achy muscles from about of the flu? Mix 1 Tablespoon of horseradish in cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil, for instant relief for aching muscles.I would imagine you could keep this in the Fridge to keep this for a while.

Sore Throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take1 tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.Or try my favorite Onion, Honey 'n Lemon Drink -- I think it works wonders!

Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer. Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the
symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly -- even though the product was never been advertised for this use.

Eliminate puffiness under your eyes..... All you need is a dab of preparation H, carefully rubbed into the skin, avoiding the eyes. The haemorrhoid ointment acts as a vasoconstrictor, relieving the swelling instantly. You can also just rub an ice cube over the puffy area -- soothing and removes any puffiness.

Honey remedy for skin blemishes... Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a band-aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin, sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight. This one seems interesting! Try the Dissolved Aspirin, too.

Listerine therapy for toenail fungus... Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful
antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.Do this before a date, not during the date... and 'not to mention this during dinner' while you're ON the date! ha,ha,ha!

Easy eyeglass protection... To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them. This is a great idea -- wish I'd known about that when I still wore glasses! You can check out my Lasik Eye Surgery Page, if you're considering that procedure -- I highly recommend that!

Coca-Cola cure for rust... Forget those expensive rust removers. Just saturate an abrasive sponge with Coca Cola and scrub the rust stain. The phosphoric acid in the coke is what gets the job done. (I think I might try this in the Toilets, since I'm not supposed to use any harsh chemicals -- because we're out in the country...I'll let you know if it works!)

Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer... If menacing bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets get in your home and you can't find the insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409. Insects drop to the ground instantly.

Smart splinter remover... just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue all over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue. This is my favorite new Tip!

Hunt's tomato paste boil cure... cover the boil with Hunt's tomato paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.

Balm for broken blisters... To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine... a powerful antiseptic. (Good for Construction Workers who are always getting blisters...)

Heinz vinegar to heal bruises... Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the
blueness and speeds up the healing process.

Kills fleas instantly. Dawn dish washing liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Goodbye fleas. (And you can wash your pets' paws with your own Hand Soap when they're muddy so they smell nice even when they're wet!)

Rainy day cure for dog odour... Next time your dog comes in from the rain, simply wipe down the animal with Bounce or any dryer sheet, instantly making your dog smell springtime fresh.

Eliminate ear mites... All it takes is a few drops of Wesson corn oil in your cat's ear. Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball.
Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the cat's skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.

Vaseline cure for hair balls..... To prevent troublesome hair balls, apply a dollop of Vaseline petroleum jelly to your cat's nose. The cat will lick off the jelly, lubricating any hair in its stomach so it can pass easily through the digestive system.(I've never had a cat, but I've seen enough episodes of Ren & Stimpy to know this sounds like a great idea! ha,ha,ha!)

Try this for Arthritic Pain -- Quaker Oats for fast pain relief.... It's not for breakfast anymore! Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain. This also sounds like a good idea -- I've also heard that MSM is very effective, and I've seen that at the local Pharmacy or Grocery Store.

Of course, you know my favourite Oatmeal Recipe is my Apple Crumble for One Diet -- it's delicious and very effectiive -- it's the recipe I developed that helped me to lose 30 pounds, so that's always great! ha,ha!
