Kitchen Island

Our Kitchen Island is enormous! It's 5' X 9', so it provides a lot of Counter Space for working, and allowed enough room for us to install Two Dishwashers.

The Double Dishwasher was Dwight's idea, and it's fantastic! We initially thought it would be great for Entertaining, but it turned out that it's a function of the Kitchen we use every day -- who knew we produced so many dishes?? Now we would encourage anyone who is Remodelling or Building from Scratch to include a second Diswasher -- you'll be thrilled with how this simplifies your life!

There is often a question of how much water a Dishwasher uses.... We're on 'Town Water' (read: not a well!), but with general water conservation, this is always a concern. Dwight says that a Dishwasher actually uses a relatively small amount of water, so that's good to know, and apparently he's a good source for this type of info, being a Plumber 'n all!

Well, here it is! There's Seating for 8, so it's really great for Entertaining (this whole house is perfect for that!).

One of the things I love the most about this Island (aside from the Work Space...) is that I can work away in the Kitchen and see everything that's going on around me. And I can easily watch my favorite Daytime Shows ( The View, Oprah and Dr. Phil!) while I'm doing the Dishes, Cooking or doing the Laundry. (I know, I know ... suddenly I've made my life sound like a Dream Come True! ha,ha,ha!)

You might have noticed that the Window Coverings changed slightly from the 'Oprah' Picture to the 'Dr. Phil' Photo -- that's right -- we finally got the Curtains! They're soooo gorgeous! (Not that the Landscaping Fabric wasn't truly lovely...this is just waaaay more elegant! ha,ha!) Of course, all of our Drapes are from Linens 'N Things -- we love that store!

The Third Picture is with 'The Ladies of The View' (it's like having your particularly smart and funny girlfriends over for coffee, only you don't have to get dressed! ha,ha! And now Dwight's new 61" TV is hooked up to the Satellite System in the Lower Living Room, so this is 'My View' from my Office! Now I never have to stop working! WooHoo!)

The Tile we chose is Green Pearl Granite 12" Tile -- it's gorgeous. We gave a lot of thought to getting Slab Granite, but there's a huge risk of breakage (that you pay for...) when you're getting slabs as big as we needed for our Kitchen. It took me a while to convince Dwight that Granite Tile was the way to go, but he totally loves it, now!

If you have a Kitchen that you would like to revamp in a real hurry (relatively speaking!), Tiling your Countertops will add new life to your Kitchen. I'll create a Page to show you how to do this!

Oh, I think you can just see my Laundry Room around the Corner -- The 5' X 9' Pantry is just around the corner, too - both rooms have French Glass Doors with the Zinc Trim -- very Open and Pretty!

This is just a nice view from down the Hall -- pretty Kitchen, eh?
